Francisco Franco is somewhat different from the first two dictators. Franco joined a rebel group who was determined to overthrow the Spanish government. This rebellion led to the Spanish Civil War. When Franco's group won the war in 1939, he took over and ruled Spain as a fascist, militarist dictatorship until his death in 1975.

Outcome
- Spain did recover under the leadership of Franco.
- He decided to remain neutral during WWII, so maintained his dictatorship until 1975.
